LocksmithCabarita
Cabarita wraps around its park and wharf on the Parramatta River. We look after the suburb's family homes and waterfront apartments with lockouts, lock changes and lock repairs from our base just up the road in Concord.
Cabarita homes and the river
Cabarita is small, quiet and close to the water. Homes range from older family houses on leafy streets to apartments with river views near Cabarita Park and the ferry wharf. Many have big glass doors and windows facing the river.
Being close to the water has a cost. Moist, salty air speeds up corrosion in exposed locks, especially the cylinders on security doors and the latches on sliding doors. A lock that worked fine five years ago can become stiff, gritty or impossible to turn.
River air is lovely. It is hard on locks.
Salt and damp in the air near the water make older locks stiff and corrode the latches on sliding doors and security screens. We see it all the time on the peninsula.
Common Cabarita jobs
- Stiff or seized locks on security doors and side gates
- Sliding door locks that no longer catch
- Window locks for river-facing glass and ground-floor rooms
- Deadlocks on older front doors
- Apartment lockouts near the park and wharf
Where a lock is corroded but repairable, we clean, lubricate and adjust it. Where it is too far gone, we replace it with hardware better suited to a waterside location.
Keeping waterside locks working
- Use a dry lubricant made for locks a couple of times a year, not cooking oil or heavy grease
- Rinse salt spray off external security door locks occasionally
- Do not force a stiff key. Call before it snaps in the lock
- Replace badly corroded padlocks on side gates and boat sheds

Boat sheds, pools and gates
Riverside homes in Cabarita often have extras that need locking: boat sheds, pool gates, garden gates to the foreshore and storage under the house. These are usually secured with padlocks and latches that live outdoors in damp, salty air.
We replace corroded padlocks with marine-suited ones, fit hasps that cannot be unscrewed from outside, and adjust pool and garden gates so they swing closed and latch. Pool gates also have safety rules in NSW, so we never fit anything that would stop a pool gate closing and latching on its own.
Cabarita questions
Why are the locks near the river so stiff?
Moisture and salt in the air near the Parramatta River speed up corrosion in exposed locks, especially security door and sliding door locks.
Can you fix a seized lock without replacing it?
Sometimes. If the lock is not too badly corroded, cleaning and servicing can bring it back. If not, we replace it.
Do you fit window locks on river-facing windows?
Yes. We fit keyed and ventilation locks to suit the frame.
How far away are you from Cabarita?
About 2.5 km by road from 42 Brays Rd, Concord.
