Lockedout?
Emergency lockout service for houses, units, townhouses and granny flats across Concord, Canada Bay and the Inner West. Call from 11am until 2am and a locksmith drives out from Brays Rd.
What to do in the first five minutes
Before you call anyone, check the obvious: a back door, a laundry door, a window that was left on the latch, or a housemate or neighbour who holds a spare. A surprising number of lockouts end there, and we would rather you saved the call-out.
If none of those work, ring 02 8530 6166. Have three things ready so we can quote and plan the job properly:
- The suburb and street you are in
- The type of door and lock, if you know it
- Whether anything urgent is inside, such as a child, a pet, medication or a stove that is on
If a child or vulnerable person is locked inside, or there is smoke, gas or any immediate danger, call 000 first. Emergency services can force entry faster than any locksmith, and they should be your first call in a life-threatening situation.
How we open a locked door
Our default is non-destructive entry. For the common lock types found on Concord and Inner West homes, including knob sets, lever sets, nightlatches and many deadlocks, a trained locksmith can usually open the door without damaging the lock, the door or the frame. You keep your existing lock and your existing keys.
When a lock has to be drilled
Some high-security cylinders, damaged locks and locks with a snapped key jammed inside cannot be picked or bypassed. In those cases the lock is drilled and replaced on the spot. We explain why before we touch it, and we agree the cost of the replacement with you first. You decide.
Proving you live there
For your protection and your neighbours', we ask for reasonable proof that you are entitled to enter the property once the door is open. A driver licence with the address, a lease, a utility bill or a neighbour who knows you are all fine. Locksmiths who skip this step are a risk to everyone on the street.
Keys on the bench, door shut behind you.
It happens to everyone once. Stay somewhere safe and well lit, keep your phone charged, and call us. We talk you through what happens next before we leave Concord.
Lockouts we handle most often
Concord and the surrounding suburbs have a real mix of housing, and each kind of property locks people out in its own way.
- Federation and Californian bungalow front doors with old mortice locks
- Unit doors in strata blocks that lock automatically when they close
- Security screen doors with the inner door locked behind them
- Sliding doors to the backyard with a jammed or broken latch
- Granny flats and studios with a single deadlock
- Side gates and garages secured with padlocks
If your keys are lost rather than locked inside, think about what was on the ring. A lost set with your address on it is a good reason to change the locks the same night rather than just getting back in.
After we get you inside
Once the door is open, take a minute before we leave. If a lock was hard to open because it is worn, sticky or badly fitted, we tell you. If the lockout happened because the door self-locks when it closes, we can show you options that stop it happening again, such as a deadlock with a key on one side only, or a keypad lock that cannot be left behind.
Lockouts are also a good moment to check what keys exist. Tenants changing over, tradespeople who borrowed a spare, and old keys on a forgotten hook are all common reasons homeowners in Concord ask us to change locks once the door is open.
Lockout questions
How much does an emergency lockout cost?
Lockout prices depend on the lock type, the door, the time of day and whether anything needs replacing. Tell us what you are dealing with when you call and we give you a quote before we drive out.
Can you open my door without damaging it?
In most cases, yes. Non-destructive entry works on the majority of standard residential locks. If a lock cannot be opened without drilling, we explain why and agree the replacement cost with you before starting.
What ID do I need when you arrive?
Something that links you to the address once the door is open: a driver licence, lease, rates notice or utility bill, or a neighbour or building manager who can vouch for you.
I am locked out at midnight. Will anyone answer?
Yes. Brays Concord Locksmith answers from 11am to 2am every day, including weekends. Call 02 8530 6166.
My key snapped in the lock. Is that a lockout?
It is treated the same way. We extract the broken piece where possible and get the door open. If the lock is damaged by the break, we can replace it on the spot.
