Windowsand sliders
Window locks and sliding door locks supplied, fitted and repaired across Concord, Cabarita, Mortlake, Five Dock and nearby suburbs. Often the easiest way into a house, and the cheapest to fix.
Why windows and sliders matter
Most homes we visit in Concord and the Canada Bay peninsula have a strong front door and a back of house that is wide open: aluminium windows with only a cam latch, timber sash windows that slide up from outside, and sliding patio doors with a hook latch that lifts out of its keeper.
These openings face the backyard, side passages and lanes, away from the street. That is exactly why they are attractive to someone trying to get in unseen.
Window locks we fit
Keyed window locks
A small lock that stops the sash or slider from moving unless it is unlocked with a key. Suitable for aluminium and timber windows.
Ventilation locks
Allow a window to open a little for fresh air while stopping it opening far enough for anyone to climb in. Popular in bedrooms in summer.
Child safety on upper windows
For homes with young children, window locks or restrictors on upper-level windows reduce the risk of falls. NSW has rules about window safety devices for strata buildings, so strata owners should check with their building manager.
- Fitted to suit the frame material
- Keyed alike where possible, so one small key opens them all
- Placed where you can still open the window quickly in a fire
Front doors get the attention. Back windows get the burglars.
Rear windows and sliding doors face the backyard, out of sight of the street. A few well-chosen locks close the gap.
Sliding door locks
Sliding glass doors to patios and balconies often rely on a single latch that has worn loose over the years. We repair and replace sliding door locks, add secondary locks to the frame, and adjust rollers so the door closes fully onto the latch.
If a sliding security door sits in front of the glass door, we can look at both in the same visit.
Fire safety comes first
Every lock on a window or door is also a lock on an escape route. Keep keys for keyed window locks somewhere everyone in the house can reach them quickly, and avoid locking every window shut at night. We place window locks with this in mind and will advise against locking a bedroom window that is the only way out of a room.
Window and slider questions
Do I need keyed window locks?
Keyed window locks are one of the most effective cheap security upgrades, especially for ground-floor windows facing the backyard or side passage. Some insurers ask about them too.
Can you fit locks to old timber sash windows?
Yes. We fit locks designed for timber sashes, placed so they do not damage the frame.
My sliding door will not lock. Can you fix it?
Usually. It is often caused by worn rollers or a misaligned latch and keeper, both of which can be adjusted or replaced.
Can all my window locks use one key?
In most cases, window locks of the same type can be keyed alike.
Are window locks a fire risk?
Not if keys are kept close by and every room has a way out. We place locks with fire safety in mind.
